Welcome to the Southern Foodways Alliance -- an institute of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture with headquarters at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi.

The Southern Foodways Alliance documents and celebrates the diverse food cultures of the American South. We set a common table where black and white, rich and poor -- all who gather-- may consider our history and our future in a spirit of reconciliation.

SFA Oral History Initiative
Submitting Photographs

We welcome photographic materials submitted as part of any oral history project. In fact, we suggest it. Photographic portraits of subjects, their surroundings and other elements relevant to the interview create a more thorough and accurate historical document, painting a more complete picture of your subject and their story.

Please note that any photographs submitted to the Oral History Initiative become the property of the Southern Foodways Alliance, unless otherwise directed.

Here are the ways you may submit photographs:

We are happy to carefully scan your original prints and then return them to you within three (3) weeks of their receipt. A self-addressed postage-paid envelope MUST accompany your submission. A Photograph Log sheet (Forms section) must be completed and submitted with the photographs.

OR

You may submit scanned images on a floppy disk or CD (file requirements: 5 in. x 7 in., 300dpi, JPEG file). A Photograph Log sheet (Forms section) must be completed and submitted with the images.

Any original photographs submitted without a request for their return become the property of the Southern Foodways Alliance.

All original prints submitted should be numbered (in pencil) on the back of the photograph in the order they appear on the Photograph Log. Photographers should sign a release form when possible.
